The term ‘Jack of all trades, master of none’ no longer applies in modern day society. If anything, the information advantage and innovation advantage that comes with a broad set of (hard and soft) skills is far more useful to a business than knowing how to do your job already. It never takes more than 6 months to understand the full workings of your role (and the business at a glance). At which, the person who has transferable skills will be able to offer a lot more over the course of their employment. So why limit yourself to one industry and set of skills? Especially when understanding different business models, working landscapes and being able to offer businesses new ideas is far more appealing.
